(file photo)CHIANG MAI -- Representatives of the ubiquitous red mini-buses on Thursday petitioned the Chiang Mai Administrative Court, accusing the Land Transport Department of wrongfully allowing Uber and Grab to illegally operate their car-hailing services. Sombat Siri, a leader of the mini-bus operators, said there were about 2,500 of the small red buses on the streets of Chiang Mai. He said the court petition was an exercise of people's right to protect their legal profession. After Uber and Grab were allowed to operate illegally, the mini-bus operators' daily earnings had dropped, affecting their quality of life.
